Dental Bridge

Having missing teeth can impact your ability to eat and speak properly and cause you to hide your smile.

A dental bridge can replace one or more consecutive missing teeth to restore your oral function and appearance.

Dr. Grant Heller in Victoria, TX, can craft a natural-looking dental bridge so you can smile with confidence and eat the foods you love.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a dental restoration designed to replace one or more consecutive missing teeth. There are two types of dental bridges.
Traditional Bridge

Traditional Bridges

A traditional bridge consists of dental crowns and pontics (artificial teeth). The pontics fill in for missing teeth and are secured by the crowns, which fit over the two natural teeth adjacent to the gap.

Implant-Supported Bridge

Implant-Supported Bridges

An implant-supported bridge relies on two implant-supported crowns to anchor the pontics in place. Implants are titanium posts that act as prosthetic tooth roots.

The Bone-Saving Benefits of Implants

When you are missing even a single tooth, your jaw can deteriorate from a lack of stimulation that your tooth roots once provided. Dental implants are the only restorative dentistry treatment that can halt and prevent jaw atrophy. By preventing bone deterioration, you can decrease your risk for a range of complications, including further tooth loss and changes to your facial appearance.

Consultation

During your initial consultation at our Victoria dental practice, Dr. Heller will examine your mouth and discuss your oral health history to determine if a dental bridge is right for you. If you need preparatory care, such as treatment for gum disease, it must be completed before your bridge is placed.

Preparation

Your dentist will begin by gently reshaping the two anchoring teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. Prepping the teeth allows the dental crowns in your bridge to fit properly and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Impressions

Using state-of-the-art technology, your dentist can take detailed digital impressions of your mouth. This eliminates the need for messy putty impressions. These images will be sent to a trusted dental lab where skilled technicians will craft your custom dental bridge.

Placement

Once your dental bridge is complete, you will have an appointment for placement. Your dentist will ensure it fits snugly and comfortably before he bonds it to your teeth. Your finished bridge will look and function just like the real thing.

Take a Closer Look at Dental Bridge Placement

Dental crowns are placed on the two teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. The crowns anchor the pontics in place to form your custom bridge.

What About Implant-Supported Bridges?

If you and your dentist decide that dental implants are the right choice for you, we will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon for implant placement, and our Victoria dentistry practice will handle your restoration. Here is what to expect:

Implant Placement

Two dental implants will be inserted directly into your jaw at both ends of the gap in your smile. You will need a few months to heal and allow the implants to fuse to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Restoration

Dr. Heller will take impressions that will guide our local partner lab in crafting your bridge. Once it is ready and you have healed from surgery, your dentist will secure your new dental bridge directly to your implants.

Implant-supported crowns act as anchoring teeth to support the pontics. The bridge is secured directly to the implants.

Insurance and Financing Options

Our Victoria dental practice accepts most dental insurance plans and providers, which can reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs for your dental bridge. For those without insurance, or to help cover costs not covered by dental insurance, we accept CareCredit® financing, which can break your treatment into affordable monthly payments. Feel free to contact us to discuss your insurance and financing options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bridges

Will my bridge match my other teeth?

Yes! Your bridge will be precisely shade-matched to your natural teeth to ensure it blends in with your smile.

Does bridge placement hurt?

Having a dental bridge placed isn't painful. You will be given a local anesthetic before your dentist alters your anchoring teeth to ensure you are completely comfortable.

I am missing a lot of teeth. Is a bridge still right for me?

If you are missing more than three consecutive teeth, other teeth replacement options, like dentures, may be better for you. Our Victoria dentistry practice offers a wide range of restorative treatments like bridges and dentures to meet all of your oral health needs.
